Privacy policy

This page is written to match what the site actually does, and it is re-checked whenever the site changes. The rule behind it: keep what you hand us to make what you asked for, delete what stops being needed.

What we collect, and why

A Name Kit request: your email, the first name you asked for, whether you ticked the box about the book, and where the visit came from (a search engine, Pinterest, a link, or direct). The kit itself is drawn in your browser; the email goes on our mailing list for news about the book and new name pages.
A saved shortlist: the candidate names and the date the list was last opened. A shortlist is a list of names, not a profile of a child. No email is attached to a shortlist in this version of the site.
Nothing else. Looking up a name, running the sibling matcher and drawing the kit store nothing about you.

How we store it

Your email is stored hashed (for lookup) and encrypted (for sending), never in plain text.
Consent is recorded on our own systems at the moment you submit, with the source and the date, before our email provider (MailerLite) ever sees the address. There is no confirmation step: this is single opt-in, and every email carries an unsubscribe link.

What we never collect

No accounts for children, and no birth dates anywhere on the site.
No third-party trackers, ad cookies, or analytics scripts. Visit counting is done without identifying visitors.
No purchased data, no list sharing, no lookalike audiences.
No payment details: this version of the site sells nothing.

How long we keep it

An email stays on the list until you unsubscribe or ask us to delete it, and an unsubscribed address is never added back.
A shortlist is deleted 12 months after you last open it.
Both deletions are performed by code with its own test, on a schedule.

Every email we send carries an unsubscribe link. Write to hello@kiddostreehouse.com to ask what we hold or to have it deleted sooner than the schedule above. Kiddos Treehouse answers for this site.
